1. What are the three most meaningful things you have learned during this course?
The most meaningful things that I learned in this class are the importance of building relationships with classmates in order to get a positive experience and a deeper level of learning. Secondly, I learned the importance of looking at learner outcomes when planning lessons, and showing the students the outcomes of each lesson. As a veteran teacher it is easy to get lazy and not focus on outcomes. Lastly, I learned that relationships between student and teacher are as important in online teaching as they are in face to face teaching.
2. What was he most surprising and/or unexpected thing that you learned through this course?
The most surprising thing I learned was the existence of MOOCs. There are numerous classes and topics that can be taken for free. I could actually see myself taking these classes on occasion. I learned a ton from the course I audited.
3. How does what you learned connect with what you already knew?
What I learned was in my mind somewhere, but because of how long I’ve been out of school and how little I pay attention during PD days, it was good to relearn some of the basic educational theories and concepts that I’ve forgotten. It’s felt great to be a student again.
4. What will you do with what you have learned? How will you apply what you have learned to your teaching and learning practice?
I will apply what I have learned to my current teaching practice and I will take another MOOC. I will try and include outcomes on my assignments so students know what they are supposed to be learning.
